STATEWIDE SURVEY SHOWS WIDESPREAD SUPPORT FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY, SOLAR FARM DEVELOPMENT

Interest in solar energy is bipartisan and growing in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – March 2, 2023 -- A new survey of Indiana voters shows growing support for renewable energy, with bipartisan and growing interest in solar farm development in the Hoosier state.  More than 140 solar and wind projects are either operational or under development now in Indiana.

“Our latest survey shows that 75% of Indiana voters have a favorable view of solar energy projects in the state, which is up from last year. People see solar energy as clean, affordable, and reliable, with half of all voters indicating that they view solar energy as all three - clean, affordable and reliable,” said Rachel Conner, Executive Director of Hoosiers for Renewables.

The online survey of 600 Indiana voters by Bellwether Research was completed in early February and found that more than 60% of voters believe renewable energy projects reduce carbon emissions, enable energy independence, lower energy costs and help attract new jobs and new economic development.

Solar Energy and Farmers’ Property Rights

The property rights of farmers receive overwhelming support with respect to renewable energy projects. Voters say that if farmers want to use their land for renewable projects, they should be allowed to do so without interference from the government. 86% of all respondents believe this, including 82% of Republicans, 87% of Independents, and 90% of Democrats.

"Given the clear and resounding support for farmer’s property rights, local and state officials should take notice. Ensuring Hoosiers can use their land as they best see fit is a clear mandate,” Conner added.
